The Broome Community No Gas Campaign’s Information Night was a great success with nearly 400 people attending the event.

The event was organised to counter the spin that Woodside and the Gas Hub proponent, the WA State Government would have people believe, offering to educate people on how the LNG proposal would really affect families.

Dr Steve Salisbury, paleontologist from Queensland University was one of 8 key speakers. He told people of his visits to Dampier Peninsula and in particular his study of the dinosaur footprint trackways that would be affected by the proposed Gas Hub. He spoke of the discovery of new species and the thousands of dinosaur footprints that had been gps mapped, cast and will be submitted to the WA Heritage Council.

Richard Costin from Kimberley Whale Watching spoke with passion about the madness of even considering building an industrial complex at James Price Point. Yesterday the state government revealed its plans for a Marine Park at Camden Sound, environmentalists calling it a PR stunt, as this area would only cover 3% of the calving grounds, the highest concentration being exactly where the LNG Gas Hub is proposed to be built.
