A huge crowd gathered tonight in Broome to hear Leader of The Australian Greens, Bob Brown, pledge to fight to save The Kimberley from the proposed Gas Hub by Woodside at James Price Point. One of Australia’s most influential leaders and incredible inspiration for protecting the environment and champion of human rights, Senator Bob Brown spoke passionately about his experiences with the Franklin Dam and urged the Broome Community to stand strong and not to give up hope. He also spoke of the need to protect whales in particular mentioning the blue whale the biggest mammal in existence, bigger than any known dinosaur, which visits this region every year with their babies before returning to Antarctica to feed. The new discovery of the miniature dolphin and other yet undiscovered species that it was our duty to protect and conserve.

He promised to speak personally with Woodside executives to convince them the errors of their ways and was hopeful that as members of the human race, they would feel deep in their hearts, the wrongness of their acts of destruction against community and the environment. He went on to say that he had felt the connection that he was honoured to have shared with the traditional owners of country and that all costs governments should be accountable in preserving these sites of ancient australian history.

Senator Rachel Siewert, also gave a passionate speech vowing to do all in her power to help protect the Kimberley, pointing out that the short term gains of exploiting natural resources could not justify the long term cost of damaging this unique area.
